Since May, rumors of actresses getting raped, killed, and dismembered were spreading fast around Hengdian World Studios. Rumors say that two mainland Chinese extra actresses filming for Nicky Wu’s (吳奇隆) wuxia TV drama, Legend of the White-Haired Maiden
<白髮魔女傳> went missing after a late dinner with the film crew. The next day, their dismembered body parts were found scattered in supermarket bags around the streets in Hengdian. It was alleged that the two victims were brutally raped, with their breasts also cut off by the killer! Phantom Killer?
However, Chinese police officials did not report on the murders. Many film crews who work in Hengdian year round said they were not even sure if the “boob-cutting” killer exists. When asked about the victims, Nicky Wu, the producer and lead actor of Legend of the White-Haired Maiden, quickly responded, “I don’t know… I have never heard about it. I don’t know!” The cast of Legend of the White-Haired Maiden also said that they have never heard of the rumor.
Former TVB actor Patrick Tam (譚耀文), who was in Hengdian filming for his fantasy drama Liu Hai Xi Jin Chan
<劉海戲金蟾>, exclaimed, “I’ve never heard of this killer before! The worst news I’ve come across since working here is about an actor and actress who fell into a river after a huge fight.” Patrick, who has been filming in China for the past ten years, assured that he has always been careful when filming in the mainland, and affirmed that he has an assistant and driver nearby at all times.
The cast of TVB drama Beauty at War
<金枝慾孽 (貳)> also expressed that they have never heard about the killings. Producer Jonathan Chik (戚其義) and actors Kenny Wong (黃德斌) and Wai Kar Hung (韋家雄) expressed their confusion concerning the rumor. Kenny said, “If it’s true, then precautions must be taken. We should all be more careful when heading out.” TVB Actresses Terrified
Christine Ng (伍詠薇) and Katy Kung (龔嘉欣) were also surprised at the news, but said that they would be extra careful when heading out in the streets. Christine added, “That is terrifying! We should be really careful when we’re filming in foreign places. When going out, we should have a male colleague to go with us so they can not only be our body guards, but also help us carry things!”
Nevertheless, a few stars have claimed that they heard of the killer. Christine Kuo (苟芸慧) said, “I’ve heard about it… they call him the ball-cutting killer. I feel scared! When we finish filming we rarely go out, and if we do, we’re always in a large group!”
Leung Ka Ki (梁嘉琪) admitted, “I’ve heard a bit about it. My colleagues warned me that I shouldn’t wear shorts outside!”
Rose Chan (陳嘉桓), who has filmed in Hengdian many times before, admitted that some of her colleagues warned her about the serial killer. She added, “Hengdian has no lights at night. The streets are dark, even the restrooms are pitch black! It’s like a ghost city!”
Hong Kong director Gordon Chan (陳嘉上), who was filming The Four
<四大名捕> in Hengdian when the rumors first came to light, also acknowledged the rumors. He said, “I’ve heard about them, so I warned the cast, especially the girls, to not go out on their own!”
Fortunately, the cast and crew of Beauty at War returned safely to Hong Kong on July 8th, after completing a whole month of filming in Hengdian. Whether the rumors are true or not, we should all take careful precaution when heading out at night!
