Fans of Hong Kong television station TVB undoubtedly remember the Five Tigers. Andy Lau, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Felix Wong, Miu Kiu Wai, and Ken Tong were famously packaged as a group during TVB's mid-eighties heyday. The five reunited for the 1991 cop thriller The Tigers, directed by Eric Tsang, and have occasionally worked together since. Nostalgia beckons once more, as Andy Lau and his Focus Films production company have reunited four of the Five Tigers for the gangster melodrama Brothers. Tony Leung couldn't make the party, but the filmmakers bring in Eason Chan (Hooked on You), Wang Zhi Wen (Together), Gordon Lam (Infernal Affairs), and Elaine Kam (Tempting Heart). Overseeing the promising cast is Derek Chiu (The Log), returning to the director's chair for the first time since 2004's Love Trilogy.
Tensions rise in the triad underworld when triad leader Tin Tam (Wang Zhi Wen) falls victim to an assassination attempt. His son, triad head Yiu Tam (Miu Kiu Wai), is now in charge, and must secure the safety of the triad from interlopers Uncle Nine (Henry Fong) and Kui (Ken Tong). Meanwhile, cop Inspector Lau (Andy Lau) angles to bring Yiu down. Amidst this, Yiu's innocent brother, Shun Tam (Eason Chan) returns from America to visit his ailing father, only to find himself quickly drawn into the escalating violence of the triad underworld. Yiu acts to keep his brother safe, with trusted enforcer Ghostie (Felix Wong) acting as Shun's bodyguard. But Yiu may not be entirely on the level. Years ago, a fortune teller told Tin Tam that one of his sons would someday kill the other. To prevent that tragedy, Tin separated the two, but now that Shun and Yiu are back together, and with violence and betrayal surrounding them, it may only be a matter of time before the prophecy comes true. The Detective , C+ Jing Taam (2007)

Aaron Kwok continues his streak of winning performances with Oxide Pang's The Detective. Set in Thailand, Kwok's latest outing is an immensely entertaining suspense thriller bearing the unmistakable Pang Bros. signature. Bolstered by atmospheric set design and commanding music, the film spins plentiful jumps and scares from an unsettling narrative that keeps the audience at the edge of their seats. Fresh off consecutive Best Actor wins at the Golden Horse Awards for Divergence and After This Our Exile, Kwok is perfectly charismatic and at ease as a laid-back Thai-Chinese detective pulled into a mysterious murder case. Kwok is supported by talented character actors Liu Kai Chi (Infernal Affairs 2), Kenny Wong (Gong Tau), Wayne Lai, Kiki Sheung, and Jo Koo, as well as long-time-no-see faces like Shing Fui On and former pop starlet Elle Choi.
Holding shop from a small dinky office, near-sighted, debt-ridden private detective Tam (Aaron Kwok) talks big, but does small business. He gets an interesting new job when hard-drinking friend Lung (Shing Fui Oi) shows up one day with the picture of a woman whom he claims is trying to kill him. Unable to locate the woman, Tam starts looking up her acquaintances, but he seems to always be in the wrong place at the right time. At his first stop, he walks into a man hanging from the ceiling, the first of many dead bodies he stumbles upon. Tam becomes increasingly obsessed with finding the truth behind the mysterious deaths, but digging too deep could have dangerous consequences. Comment Here... |

Product Title : Dancing Lion (DVD) Artist Name(s) : Teresa Mo | Anthony Wong | Francis Ng Release Date : June 28, 2007 Language : Cantonese Subtitle : Simplified Chinese, English, Traditional Chinese Rating : IIB Publisher : Tai Seng Video (US)
While Francis Ng is by now well recognized as a top actor, shining in films like Johnnie To's The Mission and Exiled, his directorial talent is still developing. After turning in films like 9413 and What Is A Good Teacher, he now co-directs with Marco Mak (Wo Hu, Color of the Truth) for Dancing Lion, a comedy filled with satirical references to Hong Kong's current affairs. The film sees how a wacky office manager (Francis Ng) tides through a layoff crisis - a threatening experience shared by many Hong Kong people in the beginning of the new millennium - with support from his family members, portrayed by Anthony Wong, Teresa Mo, and Gia Lin. Francis Ng is Gai, nominally a manager and practically a slacker in office. He often hangs out with his colleague Gau (Lam Chi Chung, Kung Fu Hustle), who is just as redundant in the company. When the two buddies lose their jobs, they take up lion dancing under the guidance of Gai's grand uncle (Anthony Wong). With some clever marketing, they unexpectedly set off a lion dancing craze in Hong Kong. The film demonstrates some breathtaking lion-dancing performances, offering as much amusement as the satires that articulate Hong Kong's changes in the new millennium. Francis Ng also invited comedian Ronald Cheng, DJ Sammy, singer Yan Ng, Rosanne Wong from 2R, and Chin Ka Lok among others to guest star in the movie, promising more fun for Hong Kong movie fans.
