Over two hundred artistes, singers, models and celebrities from the Hong Kong showbiz scene joined together on Thursday evening at the recording of a fundraising theme song at the RTHK studios.

The song is a version of Beyond's "Boundless Oceans Vast Skies" <海闊天空> that was written by the late Wong Ka Kui (黃家駒), but with new lyrics by Andy Lau (劉德華) and renamed as "Promise" <承諾>. It will be released as a message of love from the people of Hong Kong to the victims of the Sichuan Earthquake and will also form the theme song of the united fundraising effort across all the media companies and fronted by the Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild.

Some veteran stars were spotted among the line up, including Paula Tsui (徐小鳳) and George Lam (林子祥). Paula held a solemn expression as she told of how the earthquake had not only shaken the country, it has also shaken the hearts of people and she hopes that all her friends will take part in the aid effort.

Jacky Cheung (張學友) said that he hoped that friends in Sichuan will know that although Hong Kong may be far away, everyone's hearts are united and every Chinese person will feel their pain. He offered his encouragement to the victims and pledged that he and everyone he knows will do their best to help out. He added that as he has a home and a family of his own, he can imagine the sadness, pain and helplessness that the victims are feeling when they find that they have lost everything.

The three leading ladies of pop Joey Yung (容祖兒), Denise Ho (何韻詩) and Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) were seated together at the recording. Joey said that she will support the appeal wholeheartedly, so she will do her best at all of the events.

Father and daughter, Adam Cheng (鄭少秋) and Joyce Cheng (鄭欣宜) were also at the recording and bumped into each other amid the crowd. Joyce laughed that there were so many people there supporting the cause that she had to wade through a sea of people to reach her father.

Other stars present included Hacken Lee (李克勤), Eason Chan (陳奕迅), Eric Tsang (曾志偉), Liza Wang (汪明荃), Kenny Bee (鍾鎮濤), Irene Wan (溫碧霞) and Sandra Ng (吳君如).
