Kelly Chen (陳慧琳) tends to items on sale at her charity shop at the Silvercord Centre, 17 September 2008, Tsimshatsui, Hong Kong. The shop will remain open until 05 October and proceeds will be donated to Kelly's Children's Education Fund.

Kelly Chen (陳慧琳) opened the doors to her second hand charity shop today at Tsimshatsui's Silvercord Centre. The shop will be open until 05 October from 12 noon until 9:30 pm and proceeds from the sale of Kelly's personal collection of clothes and accessories will be donated to the Kelly Chen Children's Education Fund.

Kelly has donated over a thousand items, which made up two-thirds of her collection. Among the many designer outfits, shoes, boots, coats and jewellery are some special outfits, such as the Dolce & Gabanna tube top that she wore to perform at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games. She smiled that it was hard to part with such sentimental items.

Kelly spoke of the reason behind holding this sale: "Following the Sichuan earthquake, many of the villages in the hills around the disaster zone now need our support. Although some of the schools were very well built, they have been severely damaged and have been condemned, so they need to be rebuilt." She added that the fund had previously planned to build two schools in the affected area to add to the other 22 schools that are being supported by the charity. Kelly hopes that they will reach a total of 30 schools in the near future to help educate even more needy children.

Prices of the items on sale, many of which date only from the last two or three years, range from several hundred to several thousand dollars. Kelly hopes to raise a six-figure sum from this sale.
