I know when they say that its just so they can run to their research and look it over. loll

I think I might have a good one, granted it is a little long.

I am a junior and my major is East Asian Studies/Chinese at a nearby university.
The problem is that East Asian Studies is a very small and often ignored major.
One of my classes this semester was Philosophy and Religion of East Asia which I was very excited about since I've studied Buddhism and Daoism in the past and I have some previous knowledge of them. However, the university decides to hire a retired professor who has a bias in Hinduism and Indian culture, which shouldn't really be problem since we are supposed to study Hinduism for a part of the class.

So I enter the class in September with high expectations am very eager and excited to start the class. Fast forward to today (end of the semester) and the class has totally bombed.

I think it just might be easier to give a list of what sucked:

1. The Professor would often get sidetrack and talk off topic
2. He did not lecture in class about what he tested on
3. Since he was retired, he used the excuse that all his teaching materials were packed away and would not give complete lectures.
4. He had a strong bias towards Indian culture and religion and therefore did not give Chinese, Japanese religions all their due credit
5. Oh, forget Korean religion, apparently there is none.
6. Went over 8 major religions in about 12 weeks, seems pretty hard to cover everything in such a short amount of time
7. Gave only 4 10 page essays as the test, which IMHO is not an accurate or fair way to test students or allow them to prove what they have learned since all students have different writing abilities and there was no diversity in the nature of examination.
8. He often carried a very egotistical and pompous attitude in class, when students asked questions; he was very short with his answer and almost never opened up the class to discussion or to share opinions and thoughts. Which remember, this is a philosophy class.
9. He was not in his office during the time he provided to turn in our final papers, and left no note or explanation as to direct students where they should turn in their last paper which accounts for 25% of the grade.
10. Within the past two weeks, I've tried to email him several times in regard to the final paper which I emailed him on the due date, I still have not received any response and since mid-November he has been practically unreachable.
11. He ended class almost 4 weeks early.
12. Covered Shinto in 3 hours
13. Did not employ any teaching tools or aids, no videos, no slides, no pictures, no music.

So I think that is about all I can remember for now trying to recall everything at once, overall, for this particular university’s normally exceptional faculty and staff, this is one of the biggest disappointments I have had in my educational career and sad to say, I'm not surprised by this one bit. Perhaps what is even worse is that the administration is not likely to do anything about it since it is not one of their 'spotlight' programs.

I have yet to have a TA for any of my major classes.
As I said, with my particular program being so small the school barely wants to even pay the teachers.

this was some years back, math class: the teacher was leaning over the student infront of me and her butt was right in my face, and all of the sudden she farted. ew

there was another time in history we were taking a test, and the teacher was really short. right before the test he was talking and said the word short, so i started cracking up (i dont know why) and i could not stop! so like after 4 minutes of ppl staring at me the teacher made me go and take it outside, where i continued to laugh. it was a bit embarrassing going back to that class.

When I was in college, I had a finance teacher who let 2 "honor" students cheat and get away with it. One got caught with 4 full pages of cheatsheets as compared to using the 4x6 index card the teacher asked. she got a perfect score and got docked only 30% which she still ended up getting a C, another nerd she used a full 8.5 x 11 page of cheatsheet and got docked only 10%. What pissed me off was that these 2 "geniuses" had the nerve to complain to the teacher in front of the class and they couldnt understand why they got penalized. The teacher let them get away with this BS. scandalous.

I'd say that I've never really had any bad experiences with any of my teachers.

I've had the honor of being a student to many great professors. I think one thing that makes me say that they are really good professors is the passion that they convey about their work and the coursework. They continually emphasize how the coursework applies in every day life and have done a lot to capture the attention of their students. Not only that, but they also encouraged students to think outside of the box.

There is a math professor in my school, professor Kuranishi. He was my professor for ordinary diff EQs as well as for calc 2. Although he was a really strict professor, he was really good at teaching the material and made sure that everybody was on the same page before he continued. He was always available to help, and he is really passionate about his work. For somebody who got his PhD in 1952, I'd say that he's really active for his age and not disgruntled at all.

Another math professor from my school, professor Bayer, was awesome. He was so understanding of his students' circumstances. He added humor to everything that he taught, even though linear alg is as boring as it comes. He related a lot of the coursework to every day life, so it made going to the 9am class that much easier.

I have had so many good professors who have inspired me in so many different ways.

My teachers are alright. I don't have really bad experiences. I don't remember from elementary or anything, but in high school, the worst was my english teacher, who was racist again Asians (almost the whole school knows she makes racist remarks). My class who was mostly filled with Asian students were doing a multiple choice test on poetry terms and analysis of a poem and almost the whole class average was 65% and lower. It was worth a big chunk of the term, but she wouldn't let us do a retest. Mind you, she told us in the beginning of the year that she would let us do retests if needed. Anyways thats the worst. My mark dropped like 5% -_-" Even the smartest kid got 70%

How about just things you dislike about your teachers in general?

I dislike a teacher when she/he is very biased and treats students she doesn't like as if they were dirt. Being unreasonable is a sure way to get disliked too.

I remember having a math teacher who picked on the girls. Last day of classes, he played slam jack with a few asians girls and I think he either wanted to vent his frustration or he just straight out hated asian girls but everytime the jack came around, he would deliberately let the girl hit the jack and then slam so hard that the girl would scream out of pain. Needless to say, she was trying her best to get out of it.... poor girl she probably never wanted to play that game ever again. -down

i've never had a teacher who targeted me specifically.. but there are a couple at my highschool everyone hates:

- a social studies teacher who is totally racist. she constantly talks about how products from China are total crap. and she asked my Vietnamnese friend if he was in a gang. students have been petitioning to get her fired for a while now, but she said she signed a contract so she can't get fired. meh.
- a social studies teacher who gives higher marks to girls showing cleavage.
- a math teacher who seems super nice on the outside (really pretty too), but is totally evil in the inside. once this girl asked if she could go to the bathroom because of an 'emergency' and the teacher said no. the girl just kept asking her if she could go becaues she was leaking.. and the teache rjust kept saying no and told her to shut up. the girl ended up crying but all the teacher did was mock her.
- a tech ed teacher who is just throws temper tantrums all the time. and he has a major thing against Mainland Chinese people.

other than these few, my school totally rocks. =D

Where I live, teachers such as those you've described could very easily be sued...
well this might sound really weird to you, but lots of parents living in my district try to get their kids into my school (i go to Burnaby North in BC, Canada).. like after our premier made it okay for people to go to any school they want regardless of where they live, my school's gotten more and more people. yeah my school must sound like total crap from what i said about some of the teachers lol, but its actually not all that bad! like, our school is full of people with different cultures, and we've never had anything really BAD happen to our school before.

... just wanted to make that clear. my school still kicks total ass. =]

ok heres one that is f--------- stupid

one time i was at the lecture hall and u know ppl bring their laptops to class to take notes, gaming, or web browzing

and as usual i brought my laptop to class and the prof said "You aren't allow to bring a laptop to class", i was like WTF!!! "y can't i bring the laptop to class??" i asked. Then the prof answer, "U dont need a laptop for this course, (yea, the course is a math course) i know u gonna use the computer for web browsing and games". Then i talk back to the prof, "then howcome the other student could bring their laptop in?", the prof replied "they r tablet PCs, they can directly write the math equations onto the computer." WTF! regular laptop could still be used to take notes...!

omg lol this was my worse experience.

nothin 2 me, but remember at year 9 - me science teacher had a fight with a classmate ...the teacher got hurt pretty bad and out of defence, he lashed out his hand 4 the classmate's neck. A while after, like in some months - the teacher lefted.

My english teacher at 10th grade. Have no idea why he hated me, but everytime i turn in homework or assignments, I get no credit from him as he said that he wasn't able to reach my writing. That bastard, luckily i transfer out of his class after i have spoken with the principal.

My english teacher, she was talking about aliens and when she sat on the roof with her boyfriend to watch UFO: s
Strange teacher though. But I think she was senil too because back on that time when the pupils told her things, she always forgot what they said :P

Hm, it's embrassing but my worst possible experience was in primary school, I learn to deal with idiot teachers from a very early age ^^b
1 -- point at my art/craft assignment and said "it's the worst piece of junk I've ever seen" and tore it in pieces in front of the entire class, it was grade 4.
2 -- tore pages from my writing book (you know, those books for practice writing nicely?) since "that handwriting is unacceptably ugly, redo it"
3 -- show the entire class (new, since I relocated to a new school) that I did well, something like "learn from your new classmate, she beat you guys at school and got third place (in grade marks)", I got boycotted ever since

I mean, can't those idiots think? I totally blame my twisted mind for their inconsiderate act of violence. It was absolutely traumatizing.

My worst experience was when I was in jh school and my english teacher got so mad that the class was talking that he got up, rushed to the entrance of the room and locked the door, then he took his coffee mug and threw it against the wall.. I was like, please dont let him have a gun here...lol he was crazy.

Should have told him/her that you wrote better than some of the doctors that you knew and they make more money than "YOU"(teacher).:D

I was grade 3, I wouldn't dare to talk back. But then even now I would suck it up (yes, I am a coward to that extent) if it's a matter of taste and not right/wrong -- since I cannot prove that her "taste" is inferior.

But you do have a point, I always thought doctors got constant lecture on "unintelligible handwritings" during meds school.

Hmm, I've a deja vu on this but I'll post it anyway.

Middle school, a new English teacher from the States, young and hot according to the boys but they soon would regret having her as a teacher. She thinks she's cool and can introduce her method -be friends with the students- to our school but is really a pretentious, two-faced bitch. One moment she's really friendly and sucking up to you and all of a sudden she can turn into a witch from hell.

One day she promised me she will drop the test we were supposed to have the next day and I told my friends and classmates about it. The next day she gave us the test nonetheless and when I asked why she would break her promise she replied along the lines of "I've had a hard day and as a teacher I can do whatever I want" (later on we found out she punished our class because the class before us gave her a hard time)

Lucky for me she said that in the class so no one blames me. Not only other classes didn't like her unjustice ways of treating students, even her colleagues weren't charmed of her behaviour and she was so FIRED after a little less than a year. There wasn't any other teacher in the history of my school who'd ever received so much serious complaints, even from the nerds!

worst experience with teacher is when i can understand him/her because of a heavy accent and also when a teacher can not teach!

OMG...My chem teacher was like that =_=;; I barely passed his class and now my brother has him for chem and he's failing =_=. If you ask him to clarify or repeat something, most of the time, he'll respond something like "This so easy! Why can't you understand? We don't have lot of time, let's move on to next point." I couldn't even ask anyone for help--they were all as confused as I was. My mom actually went to talk to the teacher and she said that he's a good teacher. She said the reason why he doesn't help much is that he wants the students to read the books and use their brain to figure it out themselves. This is stupid =_=. Teachers are hired to TEACH and help the students--we can't figure everything ourselves.

Even a class valedictorian complained about how bad a teacher he was...
