Those are quite amazing. I remember how the barrista at the cafe near my place used to draw stars and such shapes on my machiato or mocha foam :P Nothing elaborate like those though.

Is the milk you use boiled enough and frothed enough? If it's not hot & frothy it won't be able to create the pattern...

I'd skip the art and go for real coffee. My beans are Columbian or Costa Rica. They are ground fresh- as required so the aroma is preserved. Then I put them in a percolator and wait for the coffee to brew. Drink it only in black as milk or cream kills it's real taste. If you like put in a little sugar. That's heaven!

so cool! i remember one of my cousins used to do this for my parents when i was little. she learned it as a barissta (sp is wrong i know) while she was studying in italy. i remember she had a lot of stuff out when only making 2 cups of coffee and i always wondered why. she made the prettiest pictures. thats lots of skills i think.
