I was reading a article and it was talking about how South Korean Women/Men esp in Apkujong look the most stunning in Korea. And it said it was all down to Plastic Surgery. Is it true?

of cos.. plastic surgery is super popular there. Thats why you get korean movies that revolve around that theme.. such as Time and 200 Pounds Beauty. It all reflects the society they live in.

that's intense O_o
but you really can't blame them; society really does judge an individual by their physical appearance..just one of those shallow aspects of human nature i guess

04-16-2007, 09:30 PM
I guess the trend persists then, heard that quite a while back before the Korean entertainment stormed Hong Kong, which is like what, 7 years ago?

But I think it's no surprise, many of the stars look really similar because they all got their face tweaked to look the traditional best.

It's true to a extent, its not like almost every girl has plastic surgery on them.

However... they can be pretty attractive

I guess Korean girls don't need BAD plastic surgery (anyone NEED bad plastic surgery anyways?). But they may need some tweaking here and there to look beautiful =_=b

I was amazed and shocked, I read another articl saying plastic surgery in Japan and Korea are really popular. But Why? I guess a large amount of the population is obsessed with looking gorgeous.

But would any of you guys find it acceptable? What if you found out your gf/bf had plastic surgery? As time went by and he/she got older you could actually see the implications of plastic surgery, would you mind? Could any of you accept that? Would you consider them a Monster?

What ever happened to inner beauty? Or what lyes within a person, their personality?

hiake

Beauty is only skin deep, but we strive for it day and night. To me, I would rather be with an average looking guy than a deceiving good-looking guy whose look was artificial. If he cannot live with himself, I just cannot stand him.

in china, women are starting to be more partial to plastic surgery because its necessary to get into the job market. You can go to university and grab a solid education, but if another applicant has the same credentials AND looks better than you, they get chosen. When you have millions of people flooding the market and looking for good work positions you need every advantage you can get.

In korea and japan though, i think it might just be due to vanity lol.

but I think most man cannot accept their own gal to be non-natural.. They like the looks, but not the touch.. u reckon?

khoo88
04-19-2007, 02:06 PM
Think about it this way: what's the first thing that grabs your attention about a person? Their looks. You find that person attractive, and thus you want to talk to him/her. I'm not saying it's not possible for you to like someone's personality before you like their looks, but looks is most likely the first thing you'd notice. To apply this to a business environment: presentation is everything.

Sooo.. to sum up: looks is what grabs your attention first, personality is what determines if it will work out.

Personally, I'd prefer natural looks, but if she's a nice girl and I get along really well with her, I wouldn't mind if she had some plastic surgery done before I met her (although I really really don't like fake boobs).

I've spent some time in Korea and a lot of my friends there wanted to have a plastic surgery. There are three basic things that Korean women (and some men too) don't like about their faces:
(1) eyelids - they want to have double eyelids,
(2) nose - especially the middle part,
(3) cheeks - most Korean women think their faces are too big and round. To sum it up, they seem to pursue more Western-like beauty. No wonder South Korea is one of the leading countries in eyelid surgery.

And yes, Kim Ki Duk showed his opinion on Korea's plastic surgery wave pretty well in his movie "Time". And if you haven't seen it yet, go!!! Now!!!

if you have the money, why not do it!
well.. cos you might regret? Its not just about the money. Of cos that is a prerequisite.. but its not definitely not the only factor

y does ppl do plastic surgery when they noe that it'll harm them in the future? isn't kind of stupid. i mean look @ ayumi hamasaki (jap singer). my mom said she looks beautiful before she had plastic surgerys. (i think it was her high skool years). aniways, i thought ppl have plastic surgeries becauz they're not "pretty" enough 2 show off in front of guys.

I guess I am just chicken from under the scapel, can't blame people who think they should look more beautiful. Though I highly recommend visiting a psychaitrist before doing anything drastic.

It's not unlike eating disorder, plastic surgery. Once you get the first op done, you are bound to think "I may as well fix this too..."... and it never ends.

It wasn't really a big issue back then. But yeah Korea is starting to really trend on plastic surgery. I had some friends who went back for three weeks to Korea. When they came back they were dying to go back to get plastic surgery. I think singers like Rain are good examples to mediate the hype lol.

^ haha.. its a comedy.. so its kinda happy ending. But watch Time. Total opposite.

btw, its not the pastic surgery that finally helped her gain confidence. It was the acceptance of her old self that actually did the job. And there were other negative effects of the surgery that were brought across in a funny way.. such as the breasts and butt that can't be touched. So hope you dun go away with the impression that surgery is all good and no bad :)

it is true that not everyone need plastic surgery, but they just want to conform with society's idea of beauty. i personally don't agree with plastic surgery unless there is something wrong with you. i think you have to have confidence inside of yourself first before you can be satisfied with yourself (this is just my opinion):) i heard in the news a few years back that there was a man that was married to this gorgeous woman, but when they had a baby girl the baby turn out to be really ugly (features wise). the man was confuse to where this baby got the feature from, then he found out that his wife got plastic surgery done all over. he sued her for that, but it was settled out of court or something like that so i don't know the result of that lawsuit.-lol

well depends..if she/he look so awful then i might forgive it...but i think God made us who we are 4 a reason...why we should spoilt it?

Nowadays not a lot of people know how to really appriciate the beauty of a soul and not the appearance..so maybe that's why most of people consider to have a plastic surgery.

As an entertainer its highly encouraged , anything related to media. Wrestler/Singer/News and so on. I know someone who works over there as an entertainer and tells me YES its very common. Cutting the bottom or top lip of your eye to make it bigger from fixing your nose its mostly about image as an entertainer over there now. Im not saying every entertainer does it but you'd be more then suprised. Its more socially accepted over there then say China where its considered cheap and taboo. And of course there are ones that have it and we don't even know about it =X Taiwan is another hot spot. You notice they look alot better then most regular chinese stars? *wink wink* as for HK it's mostly about natural beauty and alot of makeup , plastic surgery and the press will rain hell on you. Its probably going to slowly be accepted for the chinese general since the asian wave is kickin and influences are strong.

*edit* i just read the first page article and plastic surgery extends to the street so there you have it.

Im not sure about Japan but from what i see i'd think they are big on Plastic Surgery too , Ayumi Hamasaki / Koda Kumi anyone? Blatant transformations. Even Gackt looks like he's had his face raped under the knife. But hey i'm not too experienced with the Japanese industry you tell me =)

can plastic surgery really make that a big difference to those ppl. im surprised at how the skin colour and how jaw structure can be completely changed. its amazing. however, it don't agree with it. i think its a waste of money, there are a good chance it could go wrong and natural beauty is what i think is truly important. not some plastic face that can't pull expressions because of surgery.

The answer to your question is emphatic yes! Let me elaborate on my answer. Any physical change to anything in this universe can only be due to nature (can be = act of God), accident or man made! If it is man-made, the options available are either: DIY, forced upon you by criminal damage or you pay money for it. The latter of which is plastic surgeon.

Yea, I did heard from a korean friend that many celebrities and even teenage girls are into plastic surgery. Some teenage girls even ask their parents for plastic surgery as their high school grad gift. Supposedly, it's very common and popular thing in Korea~ I personally thing there is no point of having plastic surgery, should go with what nature gave you, unless...if someone was involved in a bad car accident (for example) and really needed the surgery or something along those lines~

sebi_1
11-14-2007, 07:36 AM
yes indeed it's quite popular in Korea

but then, i think it's true in most developed societies, where you have the means + money for undergoing such surgeries... it just hinges on whether people are outspoken about it or not

for it's a blatant fact that one gets by with a lot more with good looks - harsh social fact i suppose, but tragically true.

well with all plastic surgery risks are always going to be involved and there is always a possiblity of u ending up looking worse but gd surgeons usually minimise the risk. best way if ur worried is just not to have it done. its not worth the money anyway and if they already look gd then theres def no point in having it done.

Plastic surgery sucks. It's totally deceiving. I mean i don't care if you get it but I would defnitely not think about getting married to someone who had surgery done cuz I want my kid to look good. What if you get married to a girl who looks really beautiful due to extensive surgery and then when you have kids they look completely butt ugly? ugh! no way! even if i don't look like brad pitt, i at least want my kids to look better than me haha.
