Hong Kong Just What Was He Thinking?

Every once in a while, something comes along that is so strange that you just have to stop and scratch your head, wondering, just "what the heck was he thinking" before doing what he did.

Bigfoot hoax ends in death, authorities say
    By the CNN Wire Staff
updated 7:49 AM EDT, Tue August 28, 2012

    (CNN)
-- A man trying to create a Bigfoot hoax on a highway died after being hit by two cars, officials in Montana said. Randy Lee Tenley dressed in a Ghillie suit -- camouflage designed to resemble the ground and trees -- and stepped out onto Highway 93 Sunday night, officials said. "He probably would not have been very easy to see at all," said Jim Schneider, a state trooper. A 15-year-old girl hit him with her car, another car swerved, and a third car driven by a 17-year-old ran him over, CNN affiliate KECI reported.

Tenley was "well into the driving lane," and according to his companions he was "attempting to incite a sighting of Bigfoot -- to make people think they had seen a Sasquatch," Schneider said in the KECI report. But authorities received no calls from drivers thinking they had seen Bigfoot, the station reported. Officials with Montana Highway Patrol District 6, which includes Flathead County where the incident took place, could not be reached for comment Tuesday morning.

We're talking Montana, here. If you need some visuals, just look on Google Images; you'll see nothing but trees and sparse vistas. In essence, it is the wide open back yard of the US. If you compare population density, it has only 7 people per square mile, as opposed to something like New York State with 412 people per square mile, or New York City with 27,000 people per square mile. Total population of the state is less than one million in an area slightly larger than Finland. So, they let their kids learn how to drive at a very early age.

The problem here is one of transportation. While city dwellers rely on municipal services (bus, subway), in rural areas, it mostly centers on personal vehicular access. Also, given that most people there live very far apart; with parents at work and almost zero public transport service; kids by necessity, have to learn to drive just to be able to do simple things like go to school, sports, or shopping.

In the above incident, IMHO Akki is spot on that this was a Darwin Award candidate. To dress in a camouflage suit, at night, and then step out of the trees onto a public highway; well, res ipsa loquitur, ie. it is self evident on whose part was the negligence and where the responsibility lies. The age of the drivers here is immaterial.

I was allowed to start learning to drive at 15 and a half, so that I could get my license by the time I was 16. I didn't start until 16 though lol. If the kid was driving by herself then that's like :S
