Wait so where's the alternate ending where Nancy Wu stays alive and that. Good drama ending though. 1 Question as I didn't quite understand the last speech, who is that new king? Is it the man's son (the one who is fond of the foreign new technology and wanted to be the king)?

If you don't go after what you want, you will never have it. Simple as that!

the last speech was to justify TVB changing all the history which portrays CiXi and LianYing as power hungry. In the drama, it was a series of unfortunate events that led CiXi and LianYing to make certain decisions which in the outside world perceives as power hungry.

The new emperor is CiXi's nephew: GuangXu, who actually rebelled against CiXi who then placed him under house arrest.

TVB DRAMA "The Confidant" is horrible from the beginning of the drama. The ending is boring and not good. The storyline is boring, and not make me want to catch on. I disappoint with this drama.

I was a bit puzzled by BLee's wording on his thread listing of "Special Episode - Alternate Ending" (IMHO, rather a bit misleading) which in fact, was just a TVB special episode celebrating the finale of the series; it does not portray any new or alternate reality plot storyline. Instead, we see the entire cast in full costumed regalia on stage, singing and or speaking about their own individual experiences and personal feelings during the production. Of course, there's lots of audience shown clapping and cheering, whilst cast members invoke the name of "TVB" incessantly; I was asking myself, "Geez, how many times can someone say 'TVB' in one minute?" LOL...

ADDENDUM: The wording in question has since been amended by BLee into simply "Special Episode"

Ahh... so what you're saying is, that the entire series was actually the Alternate Ending? Ha, ha... Good one, LOL...

As far as I know, there is only the one (official) story ending; ie that there is no alternative ending.

Well Mr. Ralph you are wrong =) There is a short clip where Nancy Wu does not die. A little googling will certainly lead you to this clip which is about 5 minutes although it does not seem to fit in anywhere within the actual story plot. The only thing i can think of is he speaks to Cixi and then goes outside the palace to a doctor where Nancy Wu was in a coma to tell her everything that has happened. As he leaves she wakes up and the rest i will leave to your imagination....

Well, yes and no; out takes, edits and possible endings that don't make it into the final production generally are not considered to be an established part of the show. Similarly, during another TVB show, the one with Michael Tse's first appearance as "Laughing Gor" he was killed at the end. But owing to extreme viewer demand, he was shown after the end of the show's closing saluting the audience. This lead to speculation that he really didn't die. However, the final story line was, he was dead. Of course, that didn't stop them from reviving his character in another series. Thus, given that lesson, and in a viewer driven ratings gambit, TVB had approached this ending with a novel position, they basically asked the audience how they, the viewer, wanted the show to end. Thus, they likely shot three endings but only chose the one. The others were not officially released. After several years however, if enough people clamor for it, the other endings may be re-edited back into the series (like the multiple alternate endings in Blade Runner, depending on which version you get). But that doesn't really seem like something that TVB would do. Hence, IMHO, no alternate ending. And if I can paraphrase McCoy, "She's dead, Jim."

But for those that want to see the possible "alternate" ending clips (even as IMHO, they're not official because they were never released): http://hkstarz.com/the-confidant-spe...ernate-ending/

I dislike how TVB made CiXi and LianYing into hero characters. I think they should be more on the evil side.

This is how Chinese have rehabilitated historic characters for centuries; real life evil assholes become perpetual national heroes; revisionism at its finest, LOL...

I'm currently in the middle of this series (its been awhile since i've watched a tvb series)

the cast consist of some phenomial actorss, the only actor i have a problem with is Aime Chan.. i havent watched many works of her but she never strike me as a "good" actress. Maybe it is just me, but i find her acting very elementary.. possibly due to the fact that shes surrounded w so many veteran actors. Also, i dont think she is suited for ancient films... i was able to hear numerous accents/pronouncation errors from her, being an ABC, ik my canto is not top par, but even i was able to hear it.. so it must be bad haha

Also, there was one scene where they flashed back to nancy and wayne's past.. she was older than him O_O like wtf? and when she left she was 25.. which makes wayne roughly 20 years old.. trapped in a 40+ body? lol that was a little stupid if you asked me

and the whole penis regrowing thing is just... huh?... last time i checked castration doesnt include penial removal? or am i mistaken?

nancy really impressed me this past year.. she did a great job as te mute/deaf girl in "gloves" and she does an amazing job in her as waynes bff and the hardships she battles through.. she may be a little young to be wayne's senior tho haha

yay, someone else agreeing with me aimee chan sucks in acting.

shocking news for you perhaps (if you're a guy that is). in the chinese dynasties, castration meant removal of the WHOLE thing, penis AND balls. they weren't as advanced as we are now with surgery, so the "easiest" and "simplest" way to make sure a man would not reproduce (or have "fun") with one of your thousand wives as an emperor, would be to remove the whole thing altogether.

too bad for them, since their lives are worth crap and we all know how important the emperor is and how he needs thousand women as wives.

yea... aimee chan really annoyed me throughout the series.. im glad shes in a coma right now haha

is that physically possible? how would one go to the restroom, it doesn't seem plausible to me that with the removal of their penis they are able to pee? maybe im just thinking to much..

im near the end of the series... can't wait for the big finally

well, afaik, they put something like a straw at where you're supposed to urinate to keep the hole from closing because the wound will "heal" and close up. so once everything is "closed" except for that little hole, they can continue to urinate through the hole? something like that haha xD
