the comparison is not so much about the injury, rather how much that player will be missed... losing Merriman means about 8-10 sacks a season... but that's nothing compared to 1,600yards ground game...

my point was, that Pittsburgh has more riding on their star players than SD is...

Anyway, it's "light out" for Merriman. He can't even last 2 games. As long as the Steelers have the luck Patriots had for the past 6 seasons in regards to health, they will easily win the AFC.

The Steelers have a good OL, and even if you lose Willie Parker, they are going to get a 1000+ yard rusher in someone (Moore, Mendenhall). And losing a pass-rushing beast like Merriman does hurt. 39½ sacks in three seasons is not nothing. Good pass-rushing can create turnovers and make the secondary's job that much easier. Don't underestimate them, every team needs a Reggie White, a Lawrence Taylor, a Michael Strahan, a Bruce Smith, a Gino Marchetti, etc to become a great football team that can contend for the Super Bowl.

injuries do not necessarily have to be a process of increasing magnitude... just because u start a game with a sore arm doesn't mean ur gonna leave it with a broken shoulder... likewise, just because u are in perfect health when u start a game, doesn't mean u won't leave it with a broken collarbone...

and the Steelers won't easily win the AFC, on paper their schedule is stacked... Cleveland and Baltimore are potential defensive upsets, and Cincy has the offensive personel to blow any team out... whether they do it or not is a different story... then there's still Philly, NYG, Jags, INDY... the only game they dont' particularly have to worry about is the Redskins and maybe Vince Young...

and if u think SD will miss Merriman too much, don't fret... i never said losing his sack numbers wouldn't be problematic... just not enuff to change the outcome... SD has a young defense with enough quick outside linebackers to put pressure on any o-line... minus the pats

You said he was "healthy enuff," which is plain wrong or he wouldn't have the surgery after his FIRST game. Who will be more injury prone, a healthy guy or a guy with a bum knee that requires SURGERY? Pick one.

In Cinny, the "Ocho Cinco" contract distraction as well as their crap defense is worrisome enough, add in Carson Palmer's shit game last Sunday, they won't sniff .500 this season ONCE AGAIN.
Indy can't do shit with against Forte and the Bears' running game. And who Indy plays again? The best RB (in term of getting rushing yard), Adrian Peterson and the Vikings.

It's pretty funny you based your stats on one single game. 5th best team in terms of YPG allowed in one single game for the Giants doesn't mean jack, especially against the anemic Redskins' offense. Try posting again at the end of the season. Their secondary is garbage and if they can't blitz on time and/or playing against a superior OL, they are going to get torched. (And I'm a Giants fan.)
As for the Steelers, most of the yards allowed comes from GARBAGE TIME (all 4th quarter) when they were up by 32 points.

Even though it's only one game, 1 sack against an average OL, good luck San Diego. Don't get blown up against the Broncos.

Adrian Peterson is destroying the Colts interior defense, and their offense can't move the ball at all in the first half because they are missing a weapon (Dallas Clark is injured) and the OL is in shamble due to injuries.
Jag OL can't make the gap for the RB and Garrard facing pressures left and right.
Only a 4 points lead in the first half for the Giants against one of the worst teams in NFL (they are playing the Rams)?

Let's do a recap here... hmm...

Cinny: The "offensive" firepower managed to score 7 points the entire game.

Colts: Ouch, ugly game from the Colts. Peterson burned their rushing defense for 160 yards. Thank goodness Tarvaris Jackson sucks, or else they would get at least 1 touchdown from one of those great drives they had. Peyton Manning: 311yds, 1 TD, 2 INT.

Jag's OL is indeed garbage but probably not worse than the Colts' if Ugoh out for any extensive time. Garrard's getting pressure left and right, running game managed only 98 yards total from Garrard (32), Taylor (49), and Jones-Drew (17). Ouch.

San Diego... wow. Their defense got burned for 39 Points. Wouldn't a healthy Merriman help here? The Chargers got lucky their special team put them back in the lead late in the game. Even if they won, they really need to fix their D.

Giants demolished the Rams, which I'm really happy. They need to destroy these bad teams to show they are among the elites. Go Giants!

Brown did pretty good, but what's with the horrible clock management. They're still garbage. They also got some good luck since the wind helped their D (where offense will run the ball more). Big Ben did really good with the wind blowing in this game in the limited time he passed, with an injured non-throwing shoulder no less (12/19, 186yds, 1 TD, no INT). The Steelers defense also stuffed the passing and rushing game. As expected from the favorite to win the AFC.
