^i don't think you should actually start the protein shake that early maybe intake natural protein first? Unless you are not gaining what you want i wouldn't go there. I quit protein shakes a while ago, i mean they give you a boost of confidence kinda a placebo effect but unless you take the right amount (which is usually too much to be enjoyable) it won't really help too much. Most whey protein shakes taste like shit lol muscle milk is decent but thats not even a protein shake, plus dont take that unless you are really trying to lift weights and and do a lot of muscle based workouts or until later on, definitely not at start.

for most guys that go to the gym to just get a lil definition in and not necessarily bulk up... you don't need protein shakes, just drink chocolate milk...

lmaoo chocolate milk...diabetes and fat and unnecessary sugar...well if you run alot do alot of cardio and don't want to lose muscle weight etc some sugar is needed.

if you seriously want to build muscle though it is recommended that you take the amount of protein (in grams) concurrent to your current weight in lbs...i.e. if you weigh like 150 then take 150g of protein per day. But i dont really recommend this yet as you are just starting workout although you think yourself to be too skinny. btw what is your height and weight may i ask you should check the bmi calculator http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ you might be the right size. although the scale don't really apply to overweight athletic builds body builder etc.

you need the carbs after a work out anyways, plus the 8-10g of protein out of choco milk is bout the same as most shakes that aren't protein overdosed...

im not serious about building muscle and being all muscular.. its more put a bit of meat on my bones and having a bit of definition so its not all flab.
im currently 163cm and 51kg. im near the bottom of normal. (i think once i hit about 49-50kg is when it goes to underweight)
i was hoping to get to about 60kg to be in the middle of normal.
i guess i'll see how i go then for a little longer without protein. thanks guys =)

(btw does protein help you recover faster after a workout because it helps to repair muscles faster? )

^yes its been said that protein helps you recover after workout i would recommend just taking soymilk or something first. Certainly gives me a mental boost lol.

Anyways so you are about 5 ft 4 and 112 pounds which is normal weight you get a bmi of like 19.2 but yea i think thats pretty skinny for a guy but it all depends on proportions. But good luck
